Stretching is one of the most overlooked aspects of working out. Many people think that stretching is reserved for gymnasts and runners. And even then, it’s only done as a preparation for physical activity. But, in reality, stretching is quite important. Especially post-workout stretching. So, it might not be a bad idea to take a look at full-body stretching exercises and start doing it. It will release the tension in your muscles. And help them recover faster after an intense workout.

The importance of post-workout stretching

Stretching is a very important part of every workout. It keeps our muscles from becoming too stiff. And greatly improves flexibility. Which in turn helps our muscles remain healthy and strong. And as such, stretching is important. Both before the workout as well as after it. Even though you might not feel it, your muscles have hardened after a workout. And if you want to maintain them properly, you need to add some flexibility to your workout. And post-workout stretching is the best way to do it.

Benefits of post-workout stretching

As we already said, stretching should be a part of every well-balanced workout. It doesn’t matter if you already do aerobic exercise or if you’ve just finished your run. Post-workout stretching will bring you many benefits. As well as make you feel better and be more flexible.

Increased flexibility

One of the most important benefits of stretching is, of course, improved flexibility. With post-workout stretching, you will give different groups of muscles the flexibility they need to keep going and keep growing. It will also help you avoid workout injuries by relaxing your muscles and giving them more comfort. Your muscles will recover faster and be more flexible for the next workout.

Your body will overall become more flexible. And it will be much easier to do many of the regular exercises that involve bending. You should, for example, stretch your legs after a run. It will provide you with more muscle power and increase your endurance.

Improved blood flow with post-workout stretching

There’s also much more to post-workout stretching than just improved flexibility. Stretching also improves your blood flow. Which, in turn, helps your muscles remain healthy and keep growing. Stretching will also allow your body to cool down and return your heart rate to normal much faster. That way, your muscles will be able to recover and repair any tissue damaged during an intensive workout. So, make sure to stretch even after a light home workout. As there will be many benefits to it. And you will feel more relaxed and healthier.

Prevent pain by stretching after a workout

One big issue that a lot of people face is pain after exercise. Especially those who are just starting. And one way to deal with it and minimize it is to do post-workout stretching exercises. That way, your muscles won’t abruptly slow down. And it will give them time to slowly relax.

How to do post-workout stretching exercises?

There are many different ways in which you can do post-workout stretching. And the specifics depend on which workout you’ve been doing. Stretching is an exercise that everyone needs. But every situation is unique and requires a different approach. It also depends greatly on which muscle groups you were targeting with your exercise.

Consult with your personal trainer post-workout stretching exercises

When it comes to choosing the best post-workout stretching exercises, no exercise covers everything. So, make sure you consult with your female personal trainer Dubai about which stretching exercises you should do. And make sure to modify them according to your workout routine. As working on different groups of muscles will require different post-workout stretches.

Post-workout stretching exercises and how to do them

As we already mentioned, there are many different exercises that you can do. But, in most cases, these will serve you well. Especially if you don’t have access to a personal trainer Dubai. They will help you improve your flexibility and avoid workout injuries. And here is how to do them.

Calves and hamstrings stretching

Calves and hamstrings stretching is important exercise
Stretching calves and hamstrings will do wonders for your legs

This exercise is great for stretching your legs after an intense workout. To do it, sit on a yoga mat and extend both legs in front of you. Bend your right leg in your knee so your foot rests on your left thigh. Then, reach for your left foot with your right hand. Make sure that you are bending from the hip more than from your back. It’s ok if you can’t reach your toes. Just stretch as much as you can. But if you can, gently pull them towards you. Hold that position for around 25 seconds. And then repeat with your other leg, making sure to switch the hand as well.

Stretching your abs

This exercise will help you stretch your abs. But, aside from that, it also helps you stretch your back muscles as well. You should start by lying flat on your yoga mat. With your stomach facing down. Put your arms next to your torso and lift your upper body. You should make sure that your feet remain on the ground. Hold that position for around 20 seconds and repeat it a couple of times.

Post-workout chest stretching

This stretching exercise is easy to do and excellent for stretching your entire upper body. All that you need to do is stand on the floor with your feet at shoulder-length apart. And your arms at your sides. Reposition your hands behind you and put them together. It’s best if you can interlock your fingers. Then just gently pull your hands away from your body. It’s important to do it slowly. That should cause your shoulders to move towards each other. And make your chest go forward. Now hold that position for around 20 seconds and release. You can repeat this exercise a couple of times until you feel like you’ve stretched enough.
